2018 Writing Update #1

2018 Writing Update #1

2018 is the year that I want to put a greater focus on my writing. Over my greatly needed winter break, I started on working on a YA contemporary idea that had been tucked away in my mind since last July. As I write this I’m almost at 20K words, which I’m really happy about. My main writing goal at the moment is to finish the first draft, or write 55K, by the end of March.

I don’t want to give too much away about the plot or the title, but if you follow me on Twitter then you’ve probably caught bits of pieces about my WIP. What I will say is that my WIP features 4 diverse Muslim characters kicking butt and changing their world, and I love it. As I near completion of the zero/first draft, I’ll share more tidbits about it.

I’m interested in hearing about your 2018 writing goals? Is there a WIP that you’re currently writing or are excited to start? Are you in the outlining stage or are you revising? Is 2018 the year that you tackle the amazing experience of writing your first book? I can’t wait to know!

As always,

Happy reading, happy writing, and happy blogging!

  1. Ooh I’m writing a YA contemporary about four Muslim teenagers too! I was first writing a YA Fantasy novel but then I decided wasn’t ready to write anything at that level yet, and that I should stick with what I’m familiar with (for now at least). It took me four months to think up a plot and characters, and bit by bit, I’m knitting it all together 🙂

  2. Best of luck to you! 🙂 First drafts are so much fun but also kind of terrifying at the same time. I can’t wait to hear more about the project as you continue it (and I’m now following you on Twitter).

I’m sort of in every stage of writing right now. I’m trashing a rough draft and re-outlining it so it actually works, writing another rough draft, and rewriting a second (or third? I’ve lost count) draft of a different novel. So it’s been busy around here!
